The European Commission has recently adopted a number of guidelines for the regulation of online gambling across the EU.  The recommendations establish high level guidelines looking to enhance the quality of the services provided by EU licenced operators and to improve consumer protection within the EU.

The recommendations deal with issues such as responsible advertising, sponsorships, website information, registration process, customer support, employment training, among other subjects.
While the recommendations are not enforceable, they establish an important first step towards harmonization on online gambling policies within the EU.
The Commission invites Member States to inform about the measures taken in light of the new guidelines 18 months after its publication. The Commission will evaluate the measures taken by Member States 30 months after publication.
