WH Partners has recently participated in the FinanceMalta 8th Annual Conference held at the Malta Hilton.

The conference provided financial services practitioners and entities with the opportunity to keep updated with developments taking place in the financial services sector both locally and internationally. This year’s topic, Malta’s Financial Services Industry: Building on Success, Reaching New Horizons,  was targeted to all the key players in financial services and those who were seeking potential and growth for their business through this industry.  It featured select local and international experts who addressed delegates on current topics affecting the financial services industry.

Olga Finkel, Partner, spoke on the panel entitled Malta’s Capital Market: Growing the Critical Mass.  The panel assessed market failure instances in Malta with respect to enterprise access to finance that could lead to the inevitable conclusion that certain local firms remain non-bankable – early lifecycle, project risk, and/or lack of collateral being the key reasons – and the possible status of  the infamous “valley of death” that could arise from the lack of alternative forms of risk-based funding. Olga discussed the difficulties with raising capital which technology ventures face. The discussion dealt with alternatives needed to tackle this potential instance of market failure.

WH Partners sponsored the Residency and Citizenship workshop at the conference.  This workshop covered the issue of investor immigration throughout the world and attitudes which have changed dramatically as a result of the world economic recession and also addressed the current state for global investor immigration and the regulation in the sector.
