Head of Client Accounting

We are seeking an experienced and driven accounting professional to join our senior leadership team as Head of Client Accounting.
The Job
Reporting to a member of the Board, the Head of Client Accounting will lead the Client Accounting Department and hold overall responsibility for the delivery of high-quality accounting services to our clients. The role encompasses departmental leadership, client accounting, process improvement, automation, business development, and close collaboration with other departments across the firm.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Client Accounting Department, setting its strategic direction in line with the firm’s broader objectives
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of financial statements, management accounts, and regulatory filings for clients
  • Supervise, mentor, and appraise team members, fostering a culture of professional excellence and continuous improvement
  • Review workflows continuously and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and quality of service
  • Identify and drive automation opportunities within the department, overseeing the adoption of new technologies and systems
  • Contribute actively to business development, including building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable accounting standards, AML obligations, and all relevant regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate closely with the Tax, Corporate Services, Fiduciary, and other departments to deliver seamless, integrated services to clients
  • Monitor billing and collection processes and report on the financial performance of the department to the Board
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • ACCA qualification (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of five years’ experience at Senior or Manager level within a Client Accounting environment
  • Experience within a legal firm, CSP, or the gaming industry will be considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in English; fluency in Maltese is an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office tools
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong leadership, people-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Maltese income tax and VAT legislation
